UNRAVELLING BARRIERS

TO LEARNING

The heart and purpose of Christian Education is to nurture children and develop an environment that is inclusive and without prejudice.

This worldview develops around our set of beliefs and then gives meaning and expression to everything we do.

Children with barriers to learning are a diverse group of individuals, exhibiting difficulties in different areas. Children differ in their coping

skills too. Some children learn to adjust to learning difficulties, while others struggle throughout their lives to do even the most simple task.

Teachers are often the first to notice a child who might have learning barriers. Sometimes the signs are easy to identify but more often the

issues are not always as clear or obvious. These issues are often multi-dimensional and it takes experience or ‘knowing’ to identify and

act upon them.

The conference will aim to:

Create an understanding and ability to recognize different

learning disorders.

Help teachers to identify children who could potentially have

learning difficulties.

Help teachers identify different practices within the classroom

setting to accommodate children’s needs.

Identify the roles of different professionals who could help with

possible intervention.
